Welcome!

I'm Stefhan van der Kemp and through SVDK Engineering I freelance as Systems Architect, Mechanical Engineer, and as a consultant in the area of product development and systems engineering processes. 

My Journey

As a kid I was fascinated with engineering, I started building and playing with machines from a very young age. Much later, during my MSc in mechanical engineering at TU Delft I had the opportunity to carry out my thesis research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where I truly cemented my passion for engineering and learned that the best engineering work comes from combining 'mind and hand'. This approach leads to designs that are based on fundamental first principles but also have been validated and iterated to work well in practice. With this approach I can help customers to find and build innovative engineering solutions that sets them apart from the competition.

Next to my roles as architect, I have been involved with scaling and professionalizing engineering teams and processes to deal with the growth of a company and highly complex product development. Later on at Lightyear I was responsible for the systems engineering processes and took the lead in setting up the overall product creation process. At Weheat I took a similar role of providing structure and process to get the development team to run more smoothly and building competences over time.

What I Offer

I freelance in the following types of roles:

• Systems Architect : I can serve as a systems architect (a.i.) to lead a (multidisciplinary) engineering team in the definition, development and verification of a product or module.

• Systems Engineering & Development Processes Consultant: Consulting on structuring and scaling engineering teams, engineering processes and systems engineering practice, in order to professionalize product development, achieving more competitive products faster based on the 'Mind and Hand' approach.

• Mechanical Engineer: Designing building and testing of products, systems and modules.
